Birgit Wette was born in 1964 in Aachen (Germany). Now she lives and works in an idyllic place called Raeren, close to the German-Belgian border.
Birgit Wette did her artistic training at the Fine Arts Academy in Maastricht (The Netherlands). She then did supplementary studies to graduate as a graphics designer in Stuttgart and Düsseldorf (Germany), with focus on visual communication. Some stays of several months in Switzerland and Italy completed her studies.
For several years she worked in marketing, training and organisation matters in Düsseldorf. As a freelance graphist she offered consulting to artists, newspapers, advertisement agencies and publishers.
She set up the Scheunenatelier Membach (barn-workshop) in Membach, where she lived for long years. The barn-workshop offered space for many artists to exchange and to be creative in a wonderfully inspiring place.
Together with her husband, Erich Raken-Wette, she set up several projects to confront and combine painting and piano/sound improvisation. Passion in the flow of life is the title of her most recent works. In these paintings, strength and impulsiveness melt with the movement and rhythm of both disciplines.
